Baby story time canceled for several months

MOSES LAKE - The saga continues for the Moses Lake Library.

After a sump pump part broke Aug. 30, the library was closed through the Labor Day weekend.

It reopened Tuesday afternoon outdoors at limited capacity, with carts set up so patrons could browse and pick up materials they ordered.

At the time, library Branch Manager Connie Kuhlmann anticipated the outdoor setup would last at least through the week.

But Wednesday morning came word the library would reopen at noon due to efforts by the city of Moses Lake.

"It's not a permanent fix," Kuhlmann said. "What they've done is isolate the basement from the upstairs and have put in some alternate routes for the sewage from upstairs to make it where it needs to go."

All programs held in the basement have been canceled for several months, including baby story time. Internet and catalog capabilities have been restored, the library has resumed its regular schedule.

Kuhlmann was looking forward to being reopened after the day outside.

"(It) was fun but it was a lot of work," she said.

Kuhlmann said the people who participated in the one-day outdoor library gave a positive response.

"They were really appreciative of the fact we made an effort to do that, and to be available for them to come pick up their items and to have something for them to pick out," she said. "I'm glad we did it, but I'm glad we don't have to continue it because it was an effort."
