Ephrata puts away Omak late

OMAK - A pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns cemented the Ephrata Tigers' 20-7 victory over the Omak Pioneers in a non-league football game last Friday night.

The Tigers broke the ice three minutes into the contest when quarterback Kory Frank scored on a 15-yard touchdown run. Both teams' defenses controlled the action from there, with the score remaining 7-0 in Ephrata's favor into the fourth quarter.

With nine minutes to go, the Pioneers tied the score on a 30-yard pass play. But the Tigers quickly countered, getting the winning score with 3:11 to play when running back Kip Swem barreled in from 2 yards out.

Ephrata put the final points on the scoreboard with 10 seconds left as Frank rumbled in from 30 yards away.

Frank had a team-high 82 rushing yards on nine carries. Swem added 44 yards on 15 touches. Frank completed 7 of 10 throws for 82 yards, though he was intercepted twice. CJ Curnutt led the Ephrata receiving corps with three catches for 87 yards.

The Tigers committed four turnovers and managed only eight first downs in the game, but were also helped by Frank's 40-yard average on three punts.

Ephrata's next game is this Friday when the Tigers host Central Washington Athletic Conference rival Othello. The Huskies are coming off a 20-3 loss at Connell last week, making them even hungier entering the league opener.
