MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Chiefs built a 2-0 lead over visiting Eastmont Tuesday night before needing to pull out a five-game victory in their first volleyball match of the fall season.

Moses Lake took the first two games 25-19, 25-22, but the Wildcats roared to life in games three and four, evening the match with victories of 25-21 and 26-24. The Chiefs took the decisive fifth game, and the match, 15-8.

Shelby Gonzales had a team-high 10 kills for Moses Lake and added 16 digs. Shayla May recorded 17 digs and 14 assists, while Becky Madrishin chipped in seven kills and four blocks.

The match was a tune-up for Columbia Basin League action, which begins Thursday for Moses Lake. The Chiefs host Davis at 7 p.m.

Lind-Ritzville 3, Warden 2

WARDEN - Kelsey Garner and Cassandra Kisler finished a perfect 38 for 38 in serving attempts, but the Warden Cougars lost a five-game heartbreaker to the Lind-Ritzville Broncos Tuesday night in a non-league match.

Warden had a two-games-to-one lead after winning game three 25-22, but the Broncos, a perennial power in the 2B ranks, came back strong in the final two games, winning 15-25, 25-8, 22-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Garner went 20 for 20 from the serving line and had three aces She also led Warden with 11 kills. Kisler was 18 for 18 with one ace.

Warden head coach Jeff Kottong said his team impressed him in spite of the loss.

"What they showed me tonight, we've got a lot of potential," he said. "(We played) much better defense - we've got some girls who can dig it out."

Friday, the Cougars travel to Yakima for the SunDome Volleyball Festival.
