Thank heavens library's back on Sundays
As I mature into adulthood, the prospect of school starting again is no longer such a scary thing.
Granted, this may because I have grown embittered due to the lack of a lengthy summer vacation, and now I think kids today deserve to have their vacations come to a close, since I'm stuck at work year-round.
But it's also due to the fact schools being back in session means the Moses Lake Library is open again on Sunday afternoons, beginning in September.
I still have a hard time coping with Sundays, because the new week begins to loom and there's a hint of panic as I rush to accomplish all my plans I had going into the weekend on Friday.
Typically, I need something to fill some Sunday space, be it spending time with friends, renting or going to a movie, cleaning when I'm absolutely desperate or throwing myself into cooking a meal fit for a bachelor.
So it's nice to know there's a spot to go which doesn't cost money, is protected from the harsher elements like extreme hot and extreme cold and is good for a little bit of time consumption, providing a nifty distraction from my concerns of "How is this week going to go?" and "Have I done everything this weekend I wanted to do?"
Like everyone else, I'm happy when summer arrives, but my happiness always comes with a tinge of unease as I see the sign go up on the glass door of the library, telling me there will be at least one day during the week I'm not going to be able to go pick up the books I ordered, or see what captures my attentions as I browse the shelves.
It doesn't mean I have to go into the library every single Sunday; it's just nice to know I could.
Added bonus: The return of the library on Sunday also means I get a chance to see Phyllis Dean, since she is usually the librarian working on Sunday afternoons, although I enjoy popping in to see her when I happen to be in Warden, where she works during the week, as well.
I'm certain the reason the library is open Sundays during the school year is the very fact it is a school year, to at least give a fighting chance to those students who have lengthy reports to turn in on the following Monday, which they have only now just remembered are due.
This is one adult who is grateful for the opportunity to ride on their coattails, enjoying a homework-free existence but still getting the chance to partake in a little library goodness.
