Wilson Creek sweeps Thorp to begin postseason play

WILSON CREEK - The Wilson Creek Devils volleyball team made quick work of the visiting Thorp Tigers in first-round action of the North Central Washington League playoffs on Tuesday, winning 25-9, 25-16, 25-18.

Wilson Creek, seeded third for the district playoffs, got 20 kills and three blocks from Ksenja Fredere in the sweep of the sixth-seeded Tigers. Jackie Treat also had a terrific night, Devils head coach Mike Ottis noted, going 26 of 26 from the service line with 11 aces and adding four kills.

"She was very, very consistent on defense as well and just did a wonderful job for us tonight," Ottis said of Treat.

Wilson Creek moves on to the double-elimination round of the tournament and plays again Saturday at Kittitas against the Pateros Nannies. Game time is 10 a.m. The Nannies swept the regular-season series between the teams, and the top three teams from districts qualify for the 1B state tournament.

East Valley 3, Ephrata 1

YAKIMA - The Red Devils knocked off the visiting Tigers in Tuesday night's Central Washington Athletic Conference tournament opener, putting Ephrata into a loser-out situation on Saturday.

East Valley won 25-16, 20-25, 27-25, 25-17, overcoming strong performances from several Ephrata players. But Tigers head coach Kim Crown said overall her girls weren't as consistent as they needed to be.

"They were on and off," Crown said. "They didn't play terrible but they didn't do what they needed to do. East Valley is a decent team but I think we could've beaten them."

Britney Ratigan led Ephrata with nine kills and added four blocks. Briana Moser and Greer Monson were also solid at the net, with Moser collecting seven kills and eight blocks and Monson getting three kills and seven blocks.

BreAnne Duff finished with 17 assists, 14 digs and four kills, while Lexi Lange was 15 of 15 serving with 10 digs for Ephrata.

The Tigers face the loser of Tuesday's Prosser-Selah match in a loser-out district contest on Saturday at 10 a.m. The remainder of the tournament takes place at Selah High School. Three teams advance into 2A state play on Nov. 8-9 at Kennewick's Toyota Center.
