Bonnie Belcoe Eagar

| October 31, 2007 9:00 PM

Bonnie Belcoe Eagar passed away at home on Oct. 28, 2007, due to complications associated with breast cancer.

Bonnie was born Nov. 1, 1955, as Virginia Susanne Korten in Bremerhaven, Germany. She became Bonnie Belcoe when she was adopted as an infant by M.V. Steve and Amelia Belcoe. At the age of four, Bonnie left Germany with her new family and traveled to a new home in the United States. Bonnie was the daughter of a naval officer, which resulted in many moves across the country. After her father's retirement, the family settled in the Columbia Basin, first in the Royal Slope area and then in Moses Lake. Bonnie graduated from Royal High School in 1973. The following fall, she entered Brigham Young University (BYU). She received her B.S. degree in 1977. It was while she attended BYU that Bonnie met her husband, W. Dale Eagar. They were married on June 30, 1977. Bonnie and Dale were blessed with four children. The first two-Amber and Brianne-were born while the couple lived in Utah. They moved to Moses Lake in 1980 and were blessed with two more children-Kara and Zachary.

Bonnie was an active and admired member of her community where her involvement was spurred initially by her love and dedication to her own family. She began volunteering in the schools and classrooms of her children, and was later hired by the Moses Lake School District to serve in several positions, including Volunteer Coordinator, Community Resource Director, and finally School-to-Work Coordinator. After years of service with the Moses Lake School District, Bonnie accepted a position at the Columbia Basin Job Corp as their business-community liaison. She retired due to health reasons in June of 2007. Regardless of her position, the thing Bonnie enjoyed the most about her work was the chance to serve and interact with the wonderful people of Moses Lake.

Bonnie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in April 2004. In spite of her diagnosis, she refused to let the cancer control her life and remained active and vibrant. Often when Bonnie was asked how she was doing, she simply replied, "I'm looking at the right side of the grass." Bonnie viewed her diagnosis as another opportunity to educate and serve. Following her retirement, Bonnie became involved with the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter, Amber Smith and her husband, Delmar, of Kirkland, Wash.; daughter Brianne Climer and her husband, Edward, of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter Kara Redd and her husband, Nathan, of Santa Clara, Calif.; her son Zachary Eagar and his wife, Lindsey, of Provo, Utah; four grandchildren, Joshua Climer, Julie Climer, Jessica Climer, Hannah Redd; and her brother Steve Belcoe of Casper, Wyo.

Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in the Moses Lake Washington LDS Stake Center, located at 1515 S. Division St. Public viewings for the community and friends will be held 5 p.m. to 7 pm, Thursday, at Kaysers Chapel of Memories, and from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. immediately prior to the funeral service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, it was Bonnie's wish that memorial contributions be made to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 1337, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
