Playoff plans over for Lady Vikings
ONTARIO, Ore. - The Big Bend Community College volleyball team's playoff hopes were dashed on Friday when the Lady Vikings lost in three games to the Treasure Valley Chukars.
Treasure Valley, which holds down the fourth and final East Division spot for next month's Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Championships, earned a 30-27, 30-24, 30-23 victory. The Chukars improved to 7-5 in the division, 14-16 overall, while Big Bend dropped to 2-9, 8-20.
The Lady Vikings were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, trailing Treasure Valley by 4 1/2 games with three left to play.
Treasure Valley's Alicin German led all players with 11 kills. Brooke Fahnestock had a match-high 31 assists, with Elisa Mooney picking up 19 digs. German and Kayla VanKomen had four blocks apiece for the Chukars.
Laura Tinnell dished out 26 assists for the Lady Vikings and Malorie Clark had a team-high 12 digs.
Columbia Basin continues to lead the division and the conference with marks of 26-0, 10-0. Spokane holds the No. 2 spot in the East at 9-2, followed by Walla Walla at 8-2.
Big Bend returns continues a three-game road trip on Wednesday when it plays a 7 p.m. non-league match at Walla Walla University. On Friday, it returns to East Division play at Yakima Valley, a 6 p.m. start.
