Discussed implementing brand

MOSES LAKE - Vision 2020 is beginning the process of implementing the newly appointed watersport branding project for the City of Moses Lake.

Destination Development Inc., presented a plan to the city to become a major watersport destination to attract tourism and increase business traffic.

Vision 2020 unanimously voted David Plate to serve as the community development chair during the Tuesday afternoon meeting.

Plate shared some information with the group regarding the implementation of the plan. He met with the Visitor Information Center (VIC), a Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce committee and shared his findings with Vision 2020 members.

He said one of the biggest priorities for implementation of the plan is how the new logo can be used.

Plate said there should be limitations on how the logo, "Jump In," can be used. He said the limitations must be defined. He suggested licensing the logo.

Currently Microsoft uses the term "Jump in" as part of a marketing campaign for the Xbox 360 video game console system.

Moses Lake City Administrator Joe Gavinski said he would take the information on Microsoft's use of the term to Destination Development for consultation.

During the meeting, it was acknowledged signs are a second priority.

Destination Development suggested numerous types of signs to identify where activities and places are in the city.

He said the signs must be managed by some type of entity or organization.

Plate said more information about the project should be provided to the media.

Management of licensing for boating events should be determined, he said. Revitalization plans from other cities must be reviewed to look at successful examples.

Moses Lake Councilmember Bill Ecret said more press releases and information should be sent to local media to keep citizens informed on the project.

Jacie Daschel was voted to be the new communication chair. She is now in charge of disseminating information related to Vision 2020 and the downtown revitalization effort.

The group also discussed the idea of moving the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce to the downtown area to serve as a localized information center. A place to move was not determined.
