MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake High School swimming and diving team set four state-qualifying marks on Tuesday, but fell to the visiting Wenatchee Panthers in what will likely be the decisive meet for the Columbia Basin League championship.

The Panthers earned a 104-82 victory over the Chiefs, though Moses Lake had some of its best times of the season. The 200-yard medley relay team of Megan Schuh, Cari Cortez, Stephanie McFarland and Catherine Polito was one of those state-qualifying efforts, winning their even in 1 minute, 58.20 seconds, 43 one-hundredths of a second faster than Wenatchee's No. 1 team.

Polito also earned a pair of state-qualifying marks in the 200-yard individual medley (first in 2:14.31) and the 100-yard backstroke (first in 1:02.99). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Schuh, Hannah Grigg, McFarland and Polito had already qualified for the November meet in Federal Way, but likely improved their seeding by winning Tuesday in 3:49.56.

Other winners for the Chiefs included McFarland in the 100-yard freestyle (58.63 seconds) and Cortez in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.68).

In last Friday's diving meet, Moses Lake's Heather Devine and Teal Delys both earned district-qualifying scores.

The Chiefs travel to western Washington on Thursday for a non-league meeting with the Fife Trojans.

Moses Lake Christian 3, Thorp 0

THORP - The Lady Lions remained undefeated in impressive fashion, sweeping the season series from the Tigers on Tuesday with scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-8.

Esther Timofeyev had 17 kills for Moses Lake Christian. Ashley Cole dished out 27 assists, Heidi Sandberg had 13 digs, and Madison Jennings served six aces.

The Lions receive a bye from North Central Washington League play on Thursday. They'll play again next Tuesday, hosting the Easton Jaguars at 5:30 p.m.

Toppenish 3, Ephrata 2

TOPPENISH - BreAnne Duff had a solid all-around game for the Lady Tigers, but it wasn't enough to save Ephrata from a five-game defeat to the Wildcats in Central Washington Athletic Conference action.

Duff went 21 for 22 from the service line with four aces, and added 13 assists, 10 digs and six kills. But after taking game one, Ephrata wound up on the short end of a 25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 25-11, 9-15 final.

"It was a different kind of game, a lot of short stuff at the net," Ephrata head coach Kim Crown said. "They just didn't adjust. Both teams fought hard for it, though."

Britney Ratigan chipped in 13 kills, 13 digs and four aces for Ephrata. Carli McDonnell had a team-high 16 digs and Briana Moser had seven kills, six blocks and two aces.

Ephrata, which sits in third place in the CWAC North Division with a 4-5 record, travels to Selah on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Prosser 3, Quincy 0

PROSSER - The Lady Jackrabbits got good efforts from Taylor Kunkel and Manda Brindle, but lost a 13-25, 16-25, 18-25 CWAC decision to the Mustangs on Tuesday night.

Brindle was 15 of 15 from the service line with a pair of aces. She also had eight assists and two blocks. Kunkel was 9 for 9 serving with an ace, three kills and two blocks.

"I'm very pleased with how well they're improving," Quincy head coach Jeanne Brindle said. "We're still not at a level I'd like as far as competing."

The Lady Jacks host the Elllensburg Bulldogs on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Connell 3, Royal 0

CONNELL - A slow start doomed the Lady Knights against one of the state's top-ranked 1A squads, as the Eagles cruised to a 25-7, 25-16, 25-23 victory in South Central Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.

"If we would've played the whole match the way we'd played the third game, maybe we would've come out with a win," Royal head coach Ashley Roberts said.

Olivia Christensen and Stephanie Bartlett led Royal with four kills apiece. Tracy Iverson had three blocks and Christensen added two.

The Lady Knights host the River View Panthers on Thursday at 7 p.m.

River View 3, Warden 0

KENNEWICK - The Lady Cougars also looked flat from the start, head coach Jeff Kottong said, and lost a 5-25, 23-25, 15-25 decision to the Panthers in SCAC play on Tuesday.

"River View had it all together the first game," Kottong noted. "We always struggled down in their gym. It's one of those where it's truly a home-court advantage."

Brandi Kisler led Warden with three aces, and also had one block and three perfect passes. Kelsey Garner was 8 for 8 serving with two aces, four digs and two kills. Cassandra Kisler was 10 for 10 serving with one ace, four assists and five digs. Emma Bisnett added two kills and two blocks.

The Lady Cougars have a bye from league play on Thursday. They'll host Royal next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Soccer

Wahluke 4, Warden 3

WARDEN - Wahluke's Linda Hernandez scored all four of her team's goals, including three in a five-minute span of the first half, as the visiting Warriors held off the Lady Cougars for a SCAC victory on Tuesday.

Hernandez put Wahluke up 3-0 with goals in the 15th, 18th and 20th minutes. She added her fourth goal at the 60-minute mark.

"We were just slow getting started," Warden head coach Don Edson said. "After that we settled down and played well - it's just that first 20 minutes really hurt."

Warden (3-10 overall) narrowed its deficit behind forward Diana Rolon, who scored in the 29th minute off an assist by Maria Wostmann, and in the 48th minute unassisted. Warden's Lizeth Rodriguez drew Warden within a goal at 4-3, assisted by Rolon, in the 78th minute, but it wasn't enough to save the Cougars.

Wahluke had 13 shots on goal to Warden's nine. Warrior goalkeeper Elinn Ocampo made four saves and Warden's Evelyn Martinez made five.

Warden plays again Saturday at Connell, an 11 a.m. start.
