Allred, Knights cruise over Coyotes

ROYAL CITY - The Royal Knights continued to improve their playoff positioning last Friday, rolling up a 55-0 lead en route to a 61-14 victory over the Columbia-Burbank Coyotes in a South Central Athletic Conference contest.

Knight quarterback Austin Allred completed 4 of 10 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns, and also scored Royal's first touchdown on a 1-yard run.

The Knights' defense was also sharp, intercepting Coyote quarterback Seth Shelton three times, sacking him for a safety, and recovering two fumbles.

Royal led 28-0 after one quarter after Allred hit Zach Lewis on a 41-yard pass play, Jorge Marmelejo returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a score, and Hector Ledezma ran in from 37 yards out.

The Knights added three more scores in the second period. Blair Collins caught a 32-yard TD pass from Allred, Cash Brown returned an interception 68 yards, and Allred hit Jake Christensen on a 50-yard play.

Ledezma, who rushed 11 times for 70 yards, added his second TD of the night in the third period, a 3-yarder. Backups Connor Paysse and Ben Singer hooked up for a 46-yard TD in the fourth quarter.

Royal (5-1 overall, 4-1 SCAC) travels to Mattawa this Friday for a 7 p.m. league game with the Wahluke Warriors.

Lind-Ritzville 54, Springdale 20

SPRINGDALE - The Broncos remained unbeaten in Bi-County League play, setting themselves up for a first-place showdown with the Reardan Indians this Friday. Lind-Ritzville had little trouble dispatching Springdale, rolling up a 34-6 halftime lead. Bronco quarterback Mike Osborn completed 7 of 12 throws for 116 yards and four scores, while Jacob Milner rushed for 124 yards on 17 carries and his first-career touchdown.

Osborn opened the scoring by hitting Cory Whitmore on a 3-yard pass. He later found Alex Pfeifer on a 40-yard play and Matt Saetre's 3-yard plunge put the Broncos up 20-0 going to the second quarter.

Osborn's 23-yard pass to Pfeifer made it 27-0, and after Springdale's Damian Howder put the Chargers on the board with a 15-yard run, Milner scored from 12 yards out to cap the first-half scoring.

The Broncos' running game was dominant, finishing with 288 yards on 42 carries. Bryce Hilzer had 94 yards on 12 carries and Saetre added 42 hashes on six touches.

Osborn's final TD came in the third period as he hit Trace Jones from 9 yards out. Hilzer got the final two scores, a 32-yarder and a 35-yarder.

The Bronco defense limited the Chargers to 252 yards and recovered three fumbles. Gus Eichner had a team-high 13 tackles.

L-R (4-1 overall, 3-0 Bi-County) travel to Reardan (4-1, 2-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Almira/Coulee Hartline 54, Wellpinit 8

COULEE CITY - The Warriors flattened the Redskins in a Northeast 1B contest, enacting the 45-point mercy rule early in the third quarter.

"We were sharp from the opening whistle on Friday night," ACH head coach Brandon Walsh said via e-mail. "We need to play that way every Friday and hopefully we took a step in that direction."

The Warriors (5-1 overall) opened the scoring when Cody Leander - who carried 12 times for 61 yards - found the end zone from 15 yards out. Nate West added a 15-yarder to give ACH a 14-0 edge heading to the second period.

The Redskins got on the board shortly thereafter, but ACH took over from there, scoring 24 points to lead 38-6 at the half. Quarterback Josh Goodwin hit Kyle Tucker on a 50-yard TD pass, West scored for the second time from 25 yards out, and Tucker caught a 20-yarder from Goodwin.

Goodwin, who was 5 of 9 passing for 89 yards and carried 12 times for 87 yards, added a pair of short scoring runs in the third quarter.

West added 81 yards rushing on six carries. ACH had 367 yards of total offense and forced four Wellpinit turnovers.

The teams face each other again this Friday in Wellpinit at 7 p.m.

Odessa 70, Curlew 7

CURLEW - The Tigers head into this Friday's battle with Columbia-Hunters undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the 1B rankings, easily beating Curlew in a game that was stopped at halftime.

Bryce Todd's 55-yard punt return put Odessa on the board early. Jacob Schmidt added TD runs of 1 and 20 yards, and Ryan King hit Aaron Bruya on a 17-yard pass to make it 32-0 after one quarter.

Odessa's onslaught didn't stop after that. King ran the ball in from 25 yards away and hit Todd on a 35-yard play. Schmidt got his third score, rolling in from 30 yards, and James Glenn got into the act with a 12-yard run.

The Tigers host Columbia-Hunters at Finney Field beginning at 7 p.m. Both teams are 5-0 in league play.

Othello 35, Wapato 3

OTHELLO - The Huskies put three touchdowns on the board in the first quarter and moved above .500 in Central Washington Athletic Conference play with a runaway win over the Wolves.

Othello (3-3 overall, 3-2 CWAC) got a big night from senior tailback David Walker, who rushed 14 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Marc Garza went 6 for 11 passing for 103 yards, and Michael Harvey caught four balls for 69 yards.

James Valdez, who also had a big night rushing with 121 yards on 22 carries, put the Huskies up on a 10-yard run. Harvey hauled in a 23-yard pass from Garza and Walker rumbled in from 2 yards to put Othello's lead at 20-3 heading to the second quarter.

The Huskies put up the only points of the third and fourth quarters, getting a 6-yard Walker run and a 25-yard Garza-to-Harvey connection.

Othello faces an important test for playoff positioning this Friday, traveling to East Valley-Yakima for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

River View 37, Warden 7

KENNEWICK - The Cougars managed just 94 yards of offense in a SCAC loss to the Panthers.

River View's Michael Ledgerwood scored three touchdowns, carrying eight times for 60 yards and catching two balls for 26 yards. He opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 2-yard run, and teammate Levi Davis put the Panthers up 13-0 with an 11-yard run.

Ledgerwood later scored on runs of 3 and 15 yards. Warden's only points came in the fourth period as Anthony Platas caught a 27-yard pass from backup quarterback Abraham Mendiola. Warden starter Scott Phillips struggled, completing 4 of 18 throws for five yards and one interception.

Davis rushed for 135 yards on only nine carries for River View, while Arturo Martinez had 30 yards on 10 carries for the Cougars (1-5 SCAC).

The Cougars host the Kiona-Benton Bears this Friday in their Homecoming contest, a 7 p.m. start.

Prosser 75, Quincy 0

QUINCY - The Jackrabbits were harried by the state's top-ranked 2A squad, falling behind 35-0 after a quarter.

The Mustangs led 49-0 at halftime behind quarterback Jordan Durbin, who completed 20 of 29 throws for 370 yards and five scores. He hit Kirby Moore for two scores, Cade Wandling for two others, and Aaron Galvan for the final one.

Prosser's Drake Washington added five carries for 62 yards and two scores, a 1-yarder and a 39-yarder.

Quincy had just 21 yards of offense. Quarterback Jesse Gonzales finished 3 of 18 for five yards and two interceptions. Skyler Perez carries nine times for 29 yards to lead the Jacks' ground game.

Quincy looks to regroup at home this Friday, hosting the Grandview Greyhounds in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Soccer

Warden 2, Royal 1

WARDEN - Barbara Horta scored with two minutes left in regulation time as the Lady Cougars knocked off the Lady Knights in a SCAC game on Saturday.

Warden scored the game's first goal when Diana Rolon tallied unassisted in the 30th minute. Royal tied it 10 minutes into the second half, getting an unassisted goal from Maci Staakland. Rolon assisted on Horta's game-winner.

Warden had 15 shots on goal to Royal's five. Knight goalkeeper Danni Callahan had six saves and Warden's Evelyn Martinez had three.

Both teams return to action Tuesday afternoon with 4 p.m. league games. Warden will host the Wahluke Warriors, while Royal travels to take on the Connell Eagles.

Volleyball

Connell 3, Ephrata 1

EPHRATA - The Lady Tigers got off to a good start in their non-league match with the Eagles on Saturday, but wound up falling 25-18, 15-25, 22-25, 18-25.

Ephrata's Britney Ratigan finished with 19 kills and 19 digs. BreAnne Duff had 34 assists, 10 digs and five kills. Briana Moser added nine kills and six blocks.

The Lady Tigers return to conference play Thursday, traveling to defending state champion Selah at 7 p.m.
