Something hot from the Moses Lake firefighters
Firemen's Breakfast
set to raise
funds tomorrow
MOSES LAKE - The only hot thing at the Moses Lake Fire Department Saturday morning is the food.
"The firefighters will be fully clothed," joked deputy chief Corbin Moberg.
The annual Firemen's Breakfast begins at 5 a.m. Saturday and runs through noon at the Moses Lake Fire Department at 321 S. Balsam.
The department has held the event for roughly 15 years.
Firefighters serve up an all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, ham, eggs, hashbrowns, juice and coffee for a suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 for a family.
The event generates roughly $5,000 each year with the money being used to support the department, Moberg said.
In addition to the breakfast, there is a silent auction with fire extinguishers and donated items, as well as mugs and stickers for sale with the fire department logo on them, said assistant fire chief Pete Kunjara.
The event provides an opportunity for the public to meet their emergency responders.
"We get to know our community," said Kunjara. "The community gets to see the fire station and meet the firefighters."
The breakfast provides a chance for the public to tour the facility and look over fire department equipment.
"All of our equipment will be up and kids just love to go through the fire engines and ambulances," Kunjara said.
There is no scheduled entertainment, but Moberg said when firemen cook, they is always a chance they will perform a culinary trick.
"I can cook a bigger pancake than anyone in the department. It's so big you can't finish it," said Moberg. "It is in the shape of the United States … I can flip it all at one time."
The creative cooking came from years of many messy practice attempts, he added.
