Anstine appointed to Quincy City Council

Five applications received

QUINCY - Quincy City Council appointed a new councilmember during a Tuesday night meeting.

Keith Paul Anstine was appointed to council after a seat became vacant.

Councilmember Paul Worley previously filled the position but was appointed to be the mayor pro-tem last month after Jim Hemberry was appointed to be the mayor.

Hemberry was appointed to the mayor's position after former mayor Dick Zimbelman resigned from the seat citing leadership issues.

Anstine was one of five applicants the city council considered.

Anstine served the council in the past for two terms. He has experience serving the Grant County Health District Board of Directors and was a Quincy precinct committee officer.

His reason for applying was brief, "I love Quincy," he said.

The four other applicants for the position included George Nutter, Tom Harris, Gloria Ogoshi and Robert Poindexter.

Anstine, Ogoshi and Poindexter were present at the meeting and were interviewed.

Ogoshi said she grew up in Quincy and has extensive experience with municipalities on the east coast and has an interest in helping Quincy grow.

Poindexter has experience serving Grant County Hospital District No. 2 and serves as a director for the Central Washington Fatherhood Initiative.

Council convened into executive session for 19 minutes to discuss the applicants.

After emerging from executive session, Anstine obtained four votes from council for approval and was immediately directed to his seat in the council chambers after taking the oath of office.

Citizen Daniel Gates said he was interested in serving the council's vacant position at the previous meeting but did not submit an application.
