Prep sports recaps

PROSSER - Trailing two games to one and seeing the possibility of a 2-5 league record staring them directly in the face, the Ephrata volleyball team responded with a fury Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers rallied for a 26-24, 20-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-9 triumph over the Prosser Mustangs in a Central Washington Athletic Conference matchup. It was a big win for head coach Kim Crown and her girls, who improved to 3-4 in conference play.

"We picked it up and got after it," Crown said of the last two games. "We had a lot of girls do some really good stuff. It's nice to see."

Ephrata's front line of Briana Moser and Greer Monson came up huge. Moser had six kills and 12 blocks, while Monson added three kills and 12 blocks.

Britney Ratigan had 11 kills, nine digs and was 11 of 12 serving for the Tigers. Carli McDonnell had a team-high 11 digs to go along with 11 of 11 serving and two aces. BreAnne Duff was the Tigers' serving star, going 33 of 34 with eight aces, and also dished out 11 assists.

The Tigers continue their road swing on Thursday, playing the Wapato Wolves at 7 p.m.

Moses Lake Christian 3, Mansfield 0

MOSES LAKE - The Lady Lions continued their undefeated streak in North Central Washington League action, knocking off the visiting Kernels 25-13, 25-17, 25-18.

"The junior varsity played a lot," Lions head coach Dean Spurbeck said. "I mixed them in with some of the older players."

Ashley Cole dished out 18 assists for Moses Lake Christian. Chelsea Allsbrook had 10 digs and four kills, while Heidi Sandberg served seven aces.

The Lions host league rival Wilson Creek on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., a match for first place in the NCWL standings.

"We just prepared like for anyone else," Spurbeck said. "We try not to overlook anyone."

Wilson Creek 3, Easton 2

EASTON - The Devils didn't warm up for their showdown with Moses Lake Christian in ideal fashion, falling behind two games to none to the Jaguars.

But Wilson Creek (7-1 overall) didn't panic, and used superb play from Ksenja Fredere and Jackie Treat to win 25-27, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 15-6.

"Easton's got a lot better than when we played them (before)," Devils head coach Mike Ottis said. "We beat them in 40 minutes when they came to Wilson Creek.

"We did give them a lot of points through mistakes."

Treat buried Easton from the service line, going 29 of 31 with 13 aces. She also had nine kills. Fredere had 18 kills and went 19 of 19 serving with six aces.

Richland 3, Moses Lake 2

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs came agonizingly close to their first Columbia Basin League win of the year, but lost a two-games-to-one edge and fell to the visiting Bombers.

Richland took the match 23-25, 25-11, 22-25, 25-13, 15-10, dropping Moses Lake's CBL mark to 0-7. Shayla May had 26 assists and 25 digs for Moses Lake, while teammates Shelby Gonzales (14 kills, 17 digs) and Becky Madrishin (11 kills) also had big nights.

East Valley 3, Quincy 0

QUINCY - The visiting Red Devils walked away with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-13 victory over the Lady Jackrabbits in a CWAC match.

Quincy's Rachel Tobin and Kayla Horning each recorded four kills. Tobin added four blocks, while Horning was 7 for 7 serving. Manda Brindle added 10 assists and was a perfect 12 for 12 serving for the Lady Jacks.

Kiona-Benton 3, Warden 2

WARDEN - The Lady Cougars were one game away from a South Central Athletic Conference victory, but saw the Bears bounce back and cruise in the fifth game.

Ki-Be got the victory 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-6, dropping Warden's record to 2-6 overall, 1-5 SCAC. Lady Cougars head coach Jeff Kottong said the match turned on his team's inability to make the key plays.

"It was two pretty evenly matched teams," Kottong said. "We didn't play as well as we could've or should've.

"I can't really put my thumb on one specific thing," he added. "One game it was serving, another it was passing. We made too many mistakes."

Kacey Kisler had a team-high nine kills for the Cougars. Emma Bisnett added eight kills and four blocks. Brandi Kisler had nine digs, seven kills, two aces and one block. Cassandra Kisler was 24 for 25 at the service line with five aces, adding one kill and 13 assists.

Warden tries to rebound Thursday when it hosts the Connell Eagles in a 7 p.m. SCAC showdown.

Columbia-Burbank at Royal

ROYAL CITY - The SCAC match between the Cougars and Knights was postponed because an officiating crew never showed up, Royal head coach Ashley Roberts said.

The match has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
