Newt G. Thornton

Newt G. Thornton, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Nov. 19, 2007. He spent his last 10 months at Hawthorne Court Retirement Center in Kennewick, Wash.

Newt was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Bridgeport to George and Myrtle Thornton. He worked at Grand Coulee Dam at age 15. He also worked on Chief Joseph Dam. He worked at the Shipyards in Tacoma during WW II as a welder. When the Columbia Basin Project first started, he began farming near Moses Lake, where he farmed for 51 years.

He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, George and Myrtle Thornton; two brothers, Joe and Charlie; one sister, Vesta Young; three wives, Pearl, Ester and Mary (Pearl being the mother of his children); daughter, Donna Mae; grandson, Wayne Brown; great-grandson, Ridge Parsley.

He is survived by two daughters, Bev (Larry) Finney of Pasco, Wanda (Bud) Jackson of East Wenatchee; five grandkids: Kim Marchmonte, Mike (Call/) Finney, Tammy Parsley, Kari (Fabian) Barela, Lisa (Eric) Peterson; thirteen great-grandkids and one great-great-grandson. Also, Joe (Jan) Thornton, who is a very special nephew, of Moses Lake.

Dad served and loved the Lord all his life and supported both Assembly of God churches in Moses Lake, and the last year World Life Christian Center in Kennewick.

The funeral service will be held at Open Heaven Christian Center, 1104 W. Yakima St., Pasco, WA on Friday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m., reception to follow. Interment will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 1301 NE 10th St., East Wenatchee, WA.
