Holiday travel for Snoqualmie pass

No delays expected Thanksgiving day

COLUMBIA BASIN - Columbia Basin residents traveling to Western Washington for the holiday can expect the heaviest traffic delays Wednesday and Sunday if traveling over Snoqualmie Pass on Interstate 90.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the number of vehicles traveling over the pass during a holiday weekend nearly doubles to 58,000 per day.

Transportation traffic engineers have compiled information related to how much traffic is expected on the pass using past statistics.

Wednesday

  • Westbound traffic is

expected to be moderate from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the state. The rest of the day is expected to be light in traffic.

  • The only significant delays are expected for drivers traveling eastbound on the interstate Wednesday, the state reported.
  • For Wednesday afternoon travel it will be sunny with a freezing level of 3,000 feet, according to the state. Wednesday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a freezing level of 6,500 feet.

Thanksgiving

  • Westbound traffic on Thanksgiving is expected to be light the entire day and night, the state advised.
  • Thursday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a freezing level of 6,500 feet.

Friday

  • Westbound traffic on Friday is expected to be light the entire day and night, the state advised.
  • Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a freezing level of 6,500 feet.

Saturday

  • Westbound traffic is expected to be moderate from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the state. The rest of the day and night should consist of light traffic.
  • Eastbound traffic should be moderate from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the state reported. It is expected to be light the rest of the day and night.
  • Saturday travel is expected to be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow and rain, the state advised. The snow level is expected to be 3,500 feet. The mountain pass is at approximately 3,300 feet.

Sunday

  • Eastbound traffic is expected to be moderate from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the state advised. The rest of the day and night should consist of light traffic.
  • Sunday travel is expected to be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow and rain, the state advised. The snow level is expected to be 3,500 feet. The mountain pass is at approximately 3,300 feet.
