Fired-up soccer team sees hard work pay off

MOSES LAKE - The Columbia Basin United 95 Fire boys soccer team recently finished its season with a 7-3-1 overall record, tied for second in its division.

The Fire is a 12-and-under squad that competes in District 6 of the Inter-Association League, a division of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association. Coached by Tom Garcia, the Fire had several players who have be playing together since first grade.

"It's just been a great season," Garcia said. "They've worked very hard."

The team thanks its sponsors, Moses Lake Industries and Fastenal Inc., as well as the dedication of its parents, some of which came from Othello and Quincy to get their players at practice.

The Fire was also recently featured in a "Home Video Heroes" story on KHQ Channel 6, Spokane's NBC affiliate. A photographer was at their Oct. 21 against the Spokane Express.

The Fire is comprised of Jayson Zito, Max Prado, Rafael Salgado, Conner Boss, Roberto Monte, Lane Engelhardt, Daniel Gazca, Gerardo Cortez, Marco Pena-Iorios, Kristopher Eickerman, Thomas Lorovich, Christian Cueves, Nick Garcia, Jesse Alvarado and Jose Oronia.
