FEDERAL WAY - Moses Lake High School's girls swim and dive team finished up its fall season last weekend with a 22nd-place performance at the 4A state championships.

Catherine Polito was the Chiefs' lone individual qualifier, but the sophomore had a strong end to her season by placing fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.

Moses Lake's three relay teams failed to advance to the championship finals. The 200-yard freestyle foursome of Megan Schuh, Reilly Hourigan, Stephanie McFarland and Polito finished 13th, as did the 400-yard freestyle team comprised of the same four girls.

The Chiefs' 200-yard medley relay team of Ana Costa, Cari Cortez, McFarland and Polito wound up 18th.

"We did come out of state with best times overall (this season) and should know what it takes to be top 10 in the future," Moses Lake head coach Tony St. Onge said via e-mail. "It will be a matter of willingness to pay the price. It was definitely a learning experience for most of the team."
