Moses Lake business moves onto Third Avenue

MOSES LAKE - There's more than tack in the Tack Shop these days.

Formerly located on Balsam Street, the Moses Lake business reopened Oct. 1 in a new location, at 604 W. Third Ave.

"Bigger, better," owner Cynder Baumberger said. "It allows me to enlarge my inventory immensely, bring a nicer, true Western store to Moses Lake, because we're not just tack; we're clothes, boots, apparel."

In previous years, the Tack Shop primarily sold tack, but began selling clothing and boots in March.

The shop works well with the other businesses selling tack in the Moses Lake area, Baumberger said.

Baumberger took over the business in April 2006, and had been envisioning expanding the store's size for about a year.

"Just trying to find the right spot," she said.

Customers have responded positively to the move, and Baumberger said she is seeing increased traffic into the new location.

"Part of the reason we did move is because the building we were in is for sale," she said. "So kind of a fear factor there of getting forced out if it sold to somebody."

Baumberger hopes to continue to expand the inventory and the store's customer base.

She also offers new and used saddles, and has a part-time employee working on saddle and leather repair.

Baumberger is full time and employs two part-time employees.

The business has parking available across the street and next to a neighboring supply company, Baumberger said.

She said she hopes to see the business just continue to move upward.

"I hope we brought what everybody wanted," she said. "There are some people that were resistant to change, but I hope when they come in and see, they'll see the positive part of the change."

The business is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and in December on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
