Moses Lake's Loera named CBL's top offensive player

COLUMBIA BASIN - Josh Loera, who quarterbacked the Moses Lake Chiefs to a 6-4 overall record and a regional playoff berth this fall, was named the Columbia Basin League's 4A Offensive Player of the Year by league coaches on Sunday.

Loera, a junior playing his first varsity season, was second in the league with 1,780 yards passing. He completed 166 of his 289 passes (63.9 percent) with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Loera also had the highest passer efficiency rating in the league at 151.9 and led the CBL in total offense with 2,454 yards. He was the league's fourth-leading rusher with 674 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Chiefs, who earned the league's third seed to regionals before losing 28-27 to Greater Spokane League champion Ferris, placed several other players on the first, second and honorable mention squads.

Senior defensive back Jarred Walker, senior defensive lineman Cameron Dewitt and senior linebacker Taylor Stout were all unanimous first-team selections on defense.

Senior wide receiver Ryan Coulston, senior offensive lineman Tad Harman and junior offensive lineman Jobett Guerra were all unanimous picks to the first-team offense. Coulston had a league-high 55 receptions and 806 yards and scored six touchdowns. Harman and Guerra anchored a line that helped the Chiefs rank second in total offense at 333.1 yards per game.

Coulston was also chosen as the first team kickoff and punt returner after averaging 30.3 yards on 11 kick returns and 18.9 yards on 10 punt returns, both league bests. Senior Josh Nielsen was the top special teams choice.

Second-team selections for Moses Lake included junior defensive back Matt Harris, junior defensive lineman Spencer Fackrell, junior linebacker Tyler Harman, junior offensive lineman Andrew Derting and junior wide receiver Billy Brice.

The Chiefs' honorable mention selections were junior defensive lineman Kyle Porter and sophomore defensive lineman Kyle Palmer.
