Jeanne Louise Massart

Bom in Seattle on Jan. 30, 1919, and spent her childhood in Seattle attending public schools. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1937. She attended the University of Washington for one year.

In 1939 she entered the Dominican Order of nuns at Saint Catherine's Convent in Racine, Wisc., where her Aunt, Sr. Lucille and two cousins were members. She was a member of this order for over 30 years, serving in Racine, Milwaukee, Detroit, Green Bay, and Santa Fe, N.M., teaching school. After she left the order she moved to Moses Lake to live with her widowed mother. She obtained a degree as a licenced practical nurse from Big Bend Community College and worked for Samaritan Hospital until her retirement. In 1997 she relocated to Fresno Calif., to be with her sister Claire. She lived at Nazareth House, later moving to Horizon Health Care as her health deteriorated. In Fresno when at Horizon Health Care, her nieces Christine Lucas and Cathy Booey took care of her needs.

In Moses Lake Jeanne was active in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic parish. She was active on the R.C.I.A. group and St. Vincent de Paul.

She is survived by her sister Claire A. Lucas of Fresno, Margaret M. Carr of Shoreline, Wash., and George Massart Jr. of Moses Lake.

She passed away on Oct. 8, 2007, in Fresno, Calif. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Oct. 15 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Clovis, Calif. She is remembered by her family with prayers and love.
