Bed catches fire in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - A unit inside an apartment complex at 1065 W. Marina Dr. caught fire after a candle was left burning unattended Friday night.

The two occupants living inside were not home during the fire and there were no injuries, Moses Lake Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Brett Bastian said.

The candle was sitting in a glass jar and as the wax burned down, the glass broke, he said. The wax from the candle dripped down a nightstand it was perched on and caught a bed on fire.

The fire was confined to the single unit, Bastian said.

"The apartment wasn't livable after the fire," he said.

The majority of the personal items inside the apartment were destroyed.

Bastian said the two occupants advised they had a place to stay while looking for a new place to live.

It took less than one minute to extinguish the fire and approximately 20 minutes to clear the area, he said.

The Moses Lake Police Department assisted with traffic control.
