Farmers' Market to use Sun Basin Plaza

| May 24, 2007 9:00 PM

EPHRATA — The Ephrata City Council last week approved a request by the Farmers' Market to use Sun Basin Plaza during Saturdays this market season.

The Ephrata Parks and Recreation Commission recommended the council allow the market to use the facility.

Market organizers must meet requirements of the city's special event permit. Maintenance issues must be addressed before the first Saturday market.

The council plans to monitor potential impacts on property owners near the plaza. They'll also monitor for any effects on traffic and safety.

City council members said they'd reconsider use of the plaza if problems arise.

The season for the Ephrata Farmers' Market runs from mid-June through the end of October.

In other Ephrata business, council authorized city staff to enter a contract to receive an $11,000 grant from The Paul Lauzier Foundation.

The Ephrata Parks and Recreation Department plans to dedicate the grant money to its National Youth Congress (NYC) program. The NYC is a high school leadership program with chapters throughout the United States.
