PROSSER — The Ephrata, Othello and Quincy track and field squads will have their fair share of representatives at this weekend's 2A state championships.

Ephrata's girls team did quite well at the District 5/6 championships over the weekend, qualifying athletes in eight events. The top three finishers in each event earn automatic berths to state. The 2A championships begin Friday and continue Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

The Lady Tigers earned two district titles at Prosser's Art Fiker Stadium. Sophomore Lisa Heer won the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 2.92 seconds, while the 1,600-meter relay squad of Mylissa Treftz, Erin Laughlin, Justine Hintz and Heer was first in 4:12.74.

Heer, Treftz and Laughlin all qualified for state in multiple events. Heer was second in the 800 meters (2:29.51), with Treftz second in the 400 (1:03.18) and Laughlin second in the 300-meter low hurdles (47.97). Ephrata junior Brandi Eloff was second in the mile run (5:41.50).

Other Lady Tiger qualifiers included the 400-meter relay team of Lexis Lange, Laughlin, Casey Tate and Treftz, which took second in 51.90 seconds; Lange, third in the 100 dash at 13.59; and Erin Boland, second in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches.

Ephrata's Wes Chamberlain was the Tigers' only male athlete to qualify individually. The sophomore was first in the pole vault (13-04) and third in the high jump (5-11 1/2). Ephrata's 400-meter relay team of Kip Swem, Cody Mann, Trystan Mann and Michael Castillo finished fourth at districts, but earned a provisional state time of 44.28 seconds.

Quincy junior Whitlee Young led the Jacks' athletes at districts, qualifying for state in the one- and two-mile races. Young was second in the two-mile (12:46.39) and third in the one-mile (5:42.10). The Lady Jacks' other state competitor is sophomore Holly Grigg, who took third in the pole vault at 10-03.

Quincy's boys team will also send two to state. Senior AJ Gardner was third in the shot put (47-06 1/2) and sophomore Brandon Kennedy was third in the pole vault (13-04).

Othello's Rayce Miller led the Husky boys at districts and heads for Tacoma in two events. Miller qualified in the long jump (20-10) and triple jump (42-09 1/2).

Othello junior Courtney Kirkwood led the Lady Huskies with state-qualifying marks in the 100-meter high hurdles, javelin and long jump. Kirkwood's district mark of 140-02 in the javelin was first in the state, while her 17-foot, 1-inch leap in the long jump was the state's second best for 2A girls.

Othello sophomore Allison Walker qualified for state in the 200 meters (26.95) and the high jump (5-02). Luz Mendoza qualified with a toss of 105-06 in the discus.
