Virginia Bernice Dahl

Virginia Bernice Dahl passed away May 12, 2007, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Virginia was bom Oct.18, 1911, at Corsica, S.D., the daughter of Oliver and Dorothea Schlegel. She spent her childhood and received her schooling at Corsica and Mitchell, S.D., In 1929, she graduated from Bethany Lutheran College at Mankato, Minn. She graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Sioux City, Iowa in 1934. She practiced as a registered nurse in private and lnstitufional nursing in Iowa, Mnnesota and South Dakota. She assisted in establishing and supervising a hospital in Gregory, S.D., during the depression years of the 1930s. She was a graduate student at South Dakota Tubercular Sanitarium in tubercular nursing in Sanator, S.D. She was later employed in Glendale, Calif. at Glendale Research Hospital. On Feb. 13, 1937, she married Peter Sverre Dahl at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Shortly thereafter they moved to Glendale, Calif. They subsequently lived in North Hollywood, Barstow, and Big Bear Lake, Calif. In 1955 they moved to Moses Lake and resided there until 2004 when she moved to Post Falls. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, served two terms as president of Lutheran Women of Central Basin areas, helped organize and administer the church library, served two terms as president of Wenatchee Chapter of Northwest Association of Church Libraries and volunteered for Hospice of Grant County. She was a member of Sons of Norway, AARP, Senior Citizens and American Legion post 209. She enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, her family, home and friends and helping others however she could. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Clinton) Burt of Bryan, Texas, son Dan (Judy) Dahl of Rathdrum, Idaho and daughter-in-law Carol Dahl of Pullman, Wash., as well as her grandchildren, Peter Otholt, Thor Dahl, Kristin Dahl, Curt Lazelle, Kory Lazelle, Keli WilIard and six great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Dahl and son, Leif Dahl. Her four brothers, Stanley, Lloyd, Cliff and Armour also preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1020 S. A Street in Moses Lake on Thursday, May 17 at 11 a.m.
