Plans to travel and volunteer

MOSES LAKE — After 18 years of service, Moses Lake Fire Capt. Bob Scott is retiring.

"We're losing one of our best," Fire Chief Tom Taylor said.

Taylor presented Scott with a plaque honoring his service to the department and the community during a celebration at the fire station Tuesday afternoon.

Scott began his service to the department in July 1989 as a volunteer firefighter.

Scott plans to travel to Oregon and volunteer with the Department of Wildlife. After that, he might head south, he said.

There is one situation Scott can't forget about during his service in the department.

He recalls responding to a motel where a man suffered a heart attack. When he arrived at the scene, the man was not breathing. The man was successfully revived without modern cardiac drugs and equipment.

"I've always remembered that and it made me feel really good," Scott said. "That's why we're here."

Dave Holle was promoted to the fire captain position during a special ceremony Monday afternoon.

"He's a very dedicated employee," Taylor said. "He's got a strong commitment to doing things right."

Holle has served as an acting captain since 1994. An acting captain takes the leader position if a captain is out or on vacation.

"He's got a commitment to our citizens," he said. "He's here for the long haul."

Holle grew up in Moses Lake and lived here his whole life. He joined the department in 1989 and also worked with Grant County Fire District No. 5.

Previous to his new title, he served as a firefighter and an emergency medic.

Taylor describes him as not only an employee but a good friend to the department.
