Moses Lake tennis star Nikki Chambers signs collegiate letter of intent
MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake High School senior Nikki Chambers has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the William Jewell College women's tennis program in the fall of 2007.
Chambers, one of the top-ranked players for her age group this year in the United States Tennis Association, has played No. 1 singles for the Chiefs the past two seasons. She came to Moses Lake after a year at Charleston High School in Illinois, where she also played No. 1 singles and qualified for the Illinois state tournament.
Chambers has qualified for Washington state's 4A tournament the past two years in doubles competition. She finished seventh and third respectively in those years. This season, she has lost only one match and figures to be a part of the state tourney again.
"I am so very honored to have Nikki and her family as a part of our program," Jewell College head coach Paul Worstell said. "There were a lot of other schools interested in her and I believe Nikki is going to do some great things in our program."
Chambers also excels in the classroom. She is a member of the MLHS National Honor Society, writes for her school newspaper and intends to pursue a major in communications at Jewell College.
