Quincy booted by Prosser
QUINCY — An otherwise spectacular season came to a grinding halt for the Quincy Jacks soccer team Thursday night.
The Jacks piled up 26 shots on goal but didn't get any of them to find the back of the net. All visiting Prosser needed was one defensive breakdown from Quincy in the 15th minute and the Mustangs moved on in the Central Washington Athletic Conference playoffs with a 1-0 victory.
Quincy head coach Tom Turner said Prosser's goal came off a crossing pass into the penalty box.
"One of our defenders made a mistake and it barely rolled in," he said.
Quincy, the No. 1 seed in the CWAC's North Division, was one win away from a state tournament spot, but lost to Toppenish on Tuesday. That left the Jacks needing to beat Prosser and get by rival Ephrata on Saturday for the league's No. 3 seed to state. It didn't happen.
Still, Turner was pleased with the Jacks' season and encouraged by the fact only three starting seniors graduate.
"They had a good season," Turner said. "They had a lot of bounces go their way all season long and then they started to go the other way."
"I wish things would've gone differently at the end," he added. "We've got a lot of freshmen and sophomores in the lineup. Hopefully that'll work for us next season."
