Grubb sentenced for bomb hoax

EPHRATA — A 21-year-old Soap Lake man was sentenced Monday to three months in jail and ordered to obtain a mental health evaluation for calling in a bomb threat on the Ephrata Library in March.

Jared Scott Grubb, represented by public defender Robert Schiffner, appeared before Grant County Superior Court Judge Evan Sperline and pleaded guilty to threats to bomb or damage property.

Grant County Deputy Prosecutor Albert Lin recommended the sentence, which is to include a year of community custody.

Lin said Grubb has no prior criminal history.

Grubb was ordered to pay $1,400 in court costs. Lin said the total may increase, following a restitution hearing, due to the significant emergency response to the threats. The cost of the response has yet to be determined.

No bomb was ever found, but roads around the library were closed off, disrupting traffic.
