PASCO - Moses Lake's Tad Harman threw the shot a personal-best 53-00 to win the event at a Columbia Basin League meet in Pasco Wednesday and closes in on the longest-standing record in Moses Lake High School track history.

Harman, a junior for the Moses Lake Chiefs, is within striking distance of Kay Lybbert's 1959 record throw of 54-07. While Harman still has some distance to add to his shot put to break the record, his recent trend of setting personal records is evidence that he is improving daily.

Harman has now set three personal records in a six-day span. Last Thursday, the Moses Lake junior threw the shot 50-11 3/4 to set a personal best in that event. Saturday, Harman threw the discus 157-06 for another personal record. Wednesday's throw, which added more than two feet to Harman's best shot put distance, would have been more than enough to earn the Chiefs' junior a trip to state out of the 2006 regional track meet.

The Moses Lake girls also had a big day from their leading athlete, as Ann Noyes took first in three events and finished second in a fourth. Noyes won the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump, the triple jump, and was second in the 400 dash.

In the triple jump, Noyes faced her greatest competition from teammate Kayla Chamberlain. The Lady Chiefs' sophomore was second in the triple jump, and also finished fourth in the 200 dash and 400 dash. Chamberlain rounded out her day with a six-place finish in the long jump.

Not to be forgotten on the boys' side is Billy Matthews, who once again won the discus, this time with a throw of 151-08. Matthews also finished second to Harman in the shot put and was third in the javelin, one of his better finishes in the event this year.

Also winning Wednesday in Pasco for Moses Lake was Nick McAlavy, who went 18-11 in the long jump to win the event by nearly a foot.
