Arson suspected in Moses Lake fire

One treated for smoke inhalation

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Fire Department responded to a residential fire Monday morning.

"It's definitely a suspicious fire," Assistant Fire Chief Brett Bastian said.

Details are limited as the cause of the fire is under investigation. Arson is suspected, said Bastian.

According to the Moses Lake police records there are several scenarios being investigated for the fire.

"Upon investigation it was determined the cause might have been a cigarette which set off a couple aerosol cans in the bush," according to police documents.

Initially the reporting party thought someone threw fireworks at the residence, according to police documents.

There were nine people in the house at the time, he said. One of the occupants was treated for smoke inhalation and released.

The department received the call after midnight. The fire was under control and nearly extinguished within 20 minutes.

Although there were several other homes within close vicinity to the residence, none caught fire.

The majority of the fire was limited to the front exterior of the home and the roof space, Bastian said.
