Employees to move to old fire station

QUINCY — The old Quincy fire station building will be remodeled to house public works, the building department and administrative employees.

The move and remodel are necessary because space is cramped and there is a need for public works and the building department to be in the same area, City Administrator Tim Snead said.

When businesses come to Quincy they must work with the building department and public works. The rearrangement makes it easier to coordinate meetings between the two, he added. They need to work together.

The remodel includes office spaces and a conference room.

It is undecided how the office spaces at city hall will be used when the employees move to the new building. It is likely the police department will be able to expand, he said.

There is no estimated cost for the project or a timeline yet, he added. Council approved the project to go to bid Tuesday night.

The fire station is located next door to Quincy City Hall and is vacant, since Grant County Fire District No. 3 moved to their new location, Snead said.
