Emery Joseph Carvo

Emery Joseph Carvo passed away in the comfort of his home on March 22, 2007, at the age of 86. He was born in Toppenish, Wash., on Sept. 3, 1920. He attended Marquette Catholic School and Yakima High School. Growing up, Emery enjoyed playing banjo, guitar and piano in his family's band. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1941. He participated in entertaining his fellow servicemen while serving in the South Pacific on the seaplane tender, USS Tangier. He was honorably discharged Oct. 5, 1945, in Bremerton, Wash.

Emery married his wife of 60 years, Barbara St. George, on June 1, 1946 at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato, Wash. They made their first home in Yakima. They moved their family to Moses Lake in 1955 where he worked in construction. He was later employed at U&I Sugar Company until he retired in 1979.

Emery was active for many years in Moses Lake Little League Baseball with his five sons. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with his family.

Emery diligently served his community and family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, acceptance and zeal of life. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Emery is preceded in death by his parents, Martin F. and Violet Carl Carvo, brother, Gerald Carvo, and sister, Ethel Jones. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Carolyn and Dwight DuVall, Janis Carvo, Nancy Kanoff and Kristine and Brian Clemetson all of Moses Lake, and sons Francis and Terrie Carvo of Mattawa, Larry and Genia Carvo of Othello, Randy and Brenda Carvo of Moses Lake, Charles and Julie Carvo of Moses Lake, Richard and Alice Carvo of Albion, Washington. He was also blessed with 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service and Rosary will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake.

In lieu of flowers, it was Emery's wish that donations be made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church building fund.
