Chiefs continue strong start against Eastmont
Moses Lake boys improve to 3-1
MOSES LAKE — The Chiefs put their depth on display against Eastmont, sweeping the doubles matches and splitting four singles contests to defeat the Wildcats 5-2 Thursday.
Eastmont challenged Moses Lake in all three doubles matches, but the Chiefs came out on top in each. In first doubles, Brent McCaffery and Lars Odegaard defeated Devin Sernoesky and Cy Whitener of Eastmont 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. The Moses Lake pair is undefeated on the season, leading the Chiefs' doubles teams to a combined 14-1 mark on the year.
Cole Atkinson and Conner Lange of Moses Lake took care of Calvin Dix and Alex Folke in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4. The Chiefs' David Asfour and Danny Ries completed the sweep of the doubles matches with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win over Elliot Dix and Jesse Rogers.
Moses Lake went 2-2 in singles play, with the Chiefs picking up victories in the third and fourth singles matches. In third singles, Adrian Juarez had little trouble with Howie Spurlock, winning his match 6-2, 6-1.
Andy Su matched his teammate with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Eastmont's Judson White. Su is undefeated playing in the fourth singles position this season, a testament to the depth on the Moses Lake team.
Ben Nye of Moses Lake was defeated by Micha Spaun 7-5, 6-7 (6-7), 3-6 in first singles, and Paul Asfour lost to the Wildcats' Andy Card 2-6, 3-6.
Moses Lake begins 4A Columbia Basin League play this weekend at Walla Walla. Start time of the match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
