Corey & Horst provide stock for indoor bull riding

MOSES LAKE — Spring is a busy time of year in the Columbia Basin for the Corey & Horst Company with the seventh annual Cory & Horst Bull Riding Invitational taking place Saturday.

Each year some of the premier bulls in rodeo get loaded into a stock trailer and file into the chutes at the Kenny Ardell Pavilion at the Grant County Fairgrounds. Starting at 7 p.m. this Saturday, about 35 circuit riders from Montana, Oregon and California pit themselves against Corey & Horst's best stock

This year's event promises to be as exciting as year's past, according to organizers.

"After this winter, I think real bull riding fans have seen all our bulls," said Mike Corey. "This year we're bringing more of our TV bulls … They're not really household names but they are a really good set of challenger riders."

As with previous years, the event features the raffle of a rifle and the opportunity to re-name one of Corey & Horst's bulls. Local businesses and individuals are able to participate by purchasing the opportunity to win the rifle and christen the bull.

Also returning are bull fighters Jesse Tenant and Don Griggs.

"They are two of the best men in rider protection today," said Corey.

This year's entertainment clown, Randy Munz, is a new addition to the event.

As usual, all riders will a get a shot to go 8 seconds in the long round with the top eight riders returning for the short go, according to organizers.

"We'll buck the TV bulls in the short round," said Corey.

According to Corey, some of the young bulls in the long round will be in their first indoor crowd situation.

For those who like a good view — there won't be a bad seat in the house, according to organizers.

"As usual we'll have everybody up close and personal," said Corey. "For most people it's about as close as they'll ever get to a bull riding."
