Lady Vikings dominate Lady Eagles

MOSES LAKE — It took five innings for the Lady Vikings to defeat the Lady Eagles of Eastern Washington University in the second game of a double header Saturday.

"It went pretty well, given the weather," said Big Bend head coach Tony Stone. "We've been working on fundamentals. We did some good things on defense and offense."

After the top half of the first inning, Big Bend found themselves trailing 2-0.

Ashley Davis led off the bottom of the first for the Lady Vikings with a single through short. She stole second during Lesa Barber's at bat and advanced to third on a single to left by Barber.

Krista Kountz was walked to load the bases for Big Bend.

With three runners on, Kim Bluff hit a grand slam that sailed over the back fence to give the Lady Vikings a 4-2 lead.

Big Bend ended the inning earning one more run and then were shut down by three consecutive outs.

Both teams were scoreless in the second inning and the Lady Eagles were held scoreless through the top of the third.

At the bottom of the inning, Bluff singled to short and was driven home by a two-run homer by Chelsie Fried.

Niki Forsberg doubled to center and advanced to third during Cisca Moore's at bat. She was driven home by an infield single from Amy Alporque.

Davis hit a double to the fence and brought Alporque in. The play was repeated during Barber's at bad, sending Davis home to make it 10-2.

Neither team would score again.

Big Bend defeated the Lady Eagles 12-0 in the first game Saturday.

"We've had some adversity through the fall and pre-season," said Stone. "The team found a way to reach a common goal and be competitive."
