Drug court presentation to be rescheduled

MOSES LAKE — A discussion about the new drug court system to be implemented in Grant County at the Community Resource Forum was canceled Tuesday.

The drug court discussion will be rescheduled for a different meeting, Prevention Specialist with the Grant County Prevention and Recovery Center Wendy Hanover said. Instead the group discussed various programs available to the community.

Maternity Support Services is hosting the Mommy's Club, Director of Maternity Support Services Debe Noss said.

The meetings are available to new mothers. Several relaxation activities are provided including a foot bath demonstration, she said. There will be a presentation on postpartum depression. The meetings allow mothers who are experiencing the depression a support system and way to learn more about the condition.

The service offers other information including baby care, parenting skills, obtaining medical care, paternity information, housing and transportation assistance.

The next meeting is from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Moses Lake Community Health Center. For more information, contact maternity services at 509-765-0674.

The Opportunities Industrial Center is offering two free training sessions for agricultural workers. The sessions are offered in Spanish and English. During the tractor safety class, participants learn about safety procedures and machinery problems. The pesticide training class teaches participants how to handle hazardous chemicals and a five year Worker Verification Card is given.

On the last Saturday of each month, the United Methodist Church hosts a free Souper Food Saturday, Pat Pederson with the United Methodist Church Outreach Committee said. It is at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on South Ironwood Drive.

"We still need more people to come," she said. "We do want to make it into a community event."

In addition to the free meal, a movie time is provided for children.

The next forum is scheduled for 9 a.m., April 10 at Samaritan Hospital.
