Big Sky cancels service to Walla Walla

| March 2, 2007 8:00 PM

WALLA WALLA — Big Sky Airlines no longer offers flights to Walla Walla, a Port of Walla Walla official said Wednesday.

Port Executive Director Jim Kuntz said the district was notified the airline stops its once daily round-trip flights between Walla Walla and Boise after March 20.

The airline began the service Feb. 15, 2006, hoping to cash in on the increasing popularity of Walla Walla wineries. The airline current leaves Walla Walla daily about 6 a.m. and returns from Boise about 7:50 p.m.

Big Sky Airlines canceled service into Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake in September 2006, after the loss of the federally subsidized Essential Air Service program due to lack of passenger numbers and high subsidy rates.
