Warden senior center to become activity hub
WARDEN — The Warden Senior Center is receiving more attention than usual and the proposed new image as a community center was presented to Warden city council Tuesday.
Brad Roth, chairman of the Warden Community Center Committee, a subcommittee of the Warden Development Council, explained the committee's hopes.
"We would like to see, in the future, the community center be a place that's a center of activity here in Warden," Roth said.
He stressed there were no plans to make the seniors feel left out, but rather to make it a location where the entire community, along with the seniors, could participate.
An upcoming activity to help make the transition is a teen dance set for Friday at 7 p.m. A salsa teacher will instruct for an hour.
Other possible events throughout the summer are a movie night and barbecue on July 10.
Mayor Roldan Capetillo said he would like to see a grand re-opening of the center, where community members can get acquainted with it. Capetillo said thought should be put into a name for the center, making it inviting to people in town.
The senior center is being assisted by the Coyote Ridge inmates for the past week, who are trimming trees and painting the building's exterior, which will match colors of other city buildings.
