MOSES LAKE — The Basin Piecemakers Quilt Guild's biennial quilt festival is Friday and Saturday in Moses Lake.

The event is in the Moses Lake High School commons, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

Hundreds of quilts are on display, said coordinator Virginia Cole.

In addition to attending workshops and lectures, visitors can learn at the event about the history of quilting.

"We're going to have a lot of quilt history, which is not normal for a quilt show," Cole said.

On display are 110 fabric and embellished postcards made by 11 quilters, said member Roylene Scoggin.

"These postcards, if we put proper postage on them, would be able to (be) put in the mail," Scoggin said.

Each quilter chose a theme and the other quilters created cards fitting the theme. The themes include travel, virtues, flowers, and artsy. Two themes are best described by organizers as "If you only made left turns, where would you end up?" and "Wish you were here."

"I think it's going to be something unusual and unique," Scoggin said.

Some of the materials used for the postcards are jewels, thread, hand applique and beading.

Cole is leading a workshop about miniature quilts and collages. Antiques dealer James Carroll is lecturing about antiques at the show. Lee Fowler is lecturing on the topic "Turning the corner on the road from traditional to innovative," as well as leading a workshop.

A wide variety of vendors are selling items, Cole said.

Moses Lake High School is located at 803 E. Sharon Ave. in Moses Lake.
