Basin soccer girls take gold in Spokane

SPOKANE — The Columbia Basin United 95 Navy, a 12-and-under girls soccer team, won the Spring Classic held June 2-3 at Spokane's South Complex.

The Navy, coached by Nick Wallace, outscored their opponents 25-0 in four games and allowed just two shots on goal during the tournament.

In their opening game Saturday morning, the Navy registered 17 shots on goal and picked up a 7-0 win. Jessie Green, Kaitlyn Hornback, Skylar Kimbro, Caylah Lunning, Vanessa McNair, Kendall Sage and Lana Sween all scored goals.

The Navy finished up action on Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 triumph. Danielle Crawford and Hornback had two goals apiece, with Green, Kimbro, Sween and Tressa Radach getting one each.

On Sunday, the Navy opened up with another 8-0 win. Dorothy Catey, Krystal Fick, Cadie Goodwin and Madeline Wallace all picked up their first goals of the tournament. Hornback, Lunning, Sage and Sween had the other scores. The team had 12 shots on goal.

The Navy capped their championship run Sunday with a hard-earned 1-0 win. The team had six shots on goal and Sara Dodson picked up the game-winning goal, her first of the tournament.
