Walleyes open Legion playoffs Friday afternoon
RICHLAND — The Junior American Legion Baseball district playoffs begin this Friday, with the Moses Lake Walleyes opening up against the Kennewick Dusters at Richland High School.
The fourth-seeded Walleyes finished the regular season at 16-8 in league play by sweeping the Dusters last weekend in a doubleheader at Big Bend Community College. The two teams will face each other again Friday at 1 p.m.
The double-elimination tournament's top two seeds, Richland and West Valley-Yakima, receive a first-round bye. If Moses Lake beats the Dusters, it will face Richland on Friday at 7 p.m. The Yakima Valley Peppers and Kennewick Bandits play in the other first-round game at 10 a.m. Friday, with the winner taking on West Valley at 4 p.m. Friday.
The tournament continues Saturday and finishes Sunday. The top two teams advance to the state playoffs, which begin next Thursday, Aug. 2, at Central Valley High School in Spokane.
