Karstetter swims strong for Manta Rays' boys

MOSES LAKE — Several noteworthy performances were turned in by the Moses Lake Manta Rays' boys team during last weekend's Sizzlin' Summer Invitational at Moses Lake Aquatic Center.

Ryan Karstetter was Moses Lake's headliner for all age groups, winning three events in the 8-and-under division. Karstetter was victorious in the 50-meter freestyle (48.54 seconds), the 100 freestyle (1 minute, 46.83 seconds) and the 50 backstroke (53.17). Karstetter also had strong times in the 50 breaststroke, turning in a second-place time of 1:11.31, and in the 50 butterfly, where he was fourth in 1:06.36.

Top 10 placings for the Manta Rays are listed below by age brackets.

8 and under

Ethan Boyd had a solid weekend, compiling four top 10 performances. Boyd's top finish came in the 50 freestyle, where he took fifth in 52.24. Boyd was also sixth in the 50 backstroke (1:06.62) and ninth in both the 100 freestyle (2:05.25) and 50 butterfly (1:31.00).

Jacob Shank also turned in four times within the top 10. His best finish was fifth in the 50 butterfly (1:08.66). Shank was sixth in the 50 breaststroke (1:19.01), seventh in the 100 freestyle (2:00.54) and 10th in the 50 backstroke (1:13.85).

Dylan Higgins also had a couple good times, finishing the 50 freestyle in 54.55 for sixth place and the 50 backstroke in 1:10.29 for seventh.

Tyson Karstetter dominated two events, winning the 50 breaststroke in 50.17 and the 50 backstroke in 45.74. Karstetter capped a tremendous weekend with four other top-10 placings. He was fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:34.12), fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:52.52) and sixth in both the 100 backstroke (1:39.61) and 50 freestyle (41.05).

Eric Christensen's top mark came in the 100 butterfly, where he took sixth in 2:16.50. Christensen was ninth in the 200-meter individual medley (4:18.05) and 10th in the 100 breaststroke (2:06.97).

Elliott Boyd and Dallin Fairbanks also left their mark, with Boyd taking eighth in the 200 IM (4:16.00) and Fairbanks coming in ninth in the 50 freestyle (42.18).

Brenden Eslick was the Manta Rays' star, finishing among the top 10 in five events, including third-place efforts in the 100 freestyle (1:24.00) and 100 butterfly (1:38.76). Eslick also took fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:56.49), fifth in the 50 backstroke (47.25) and seventh in the 200 IM (3:31.53).

Corey Bradshaw's top finish came in the 50 backstroke, where he took sixth in 47.76. Bradshaw also placed seventh in the 100 freestyle (1:29.19) and eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:54.84).

Reid Jackson had a pair of top 10 times, finishing in 4:06.54 for fourth in the 200 breaststroke, and in 3:12.29 for ninth in the 200 freestyle.

Michael Justesen had a sixth-place mark of 1:50.54 in the 100 backstroke, while teammate Kaelan Connacher was ninth in the 100 freestyle (1:29.32).

The 200-meter medley relay team of Connacher, Bradshaw, Eslick and Brandon Bastian also looked good, taking fourth in 3:15.30.

13-14

While the Manta Rays turned out a small contingency for the 13-14 bracket, Evan McFarland managed to turn in three first-place marks among B Division swimmers. McFarland won the 100 freestyle (1:07.29), the 200 IM (2:58.26) and 200 breaststroke (3:19.05).

Daniel Noteboom also swam well in the B Division, taking first in the 100 butterfly (1:37.75). Notebook earned a pair of fifth-place marks in the 50 freestyle (34.13) and 100 freestyle (1:19.82), as well as a sixth-place mark in the 50 butterfly (40.60).

Jeremy Grant, Marshall Goodrich, McFarland and Samuel Dunning teamed up to finish fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:19.93).

15 and over

Marshall Goodrich was the only Moses Lake swimmer to earn top 10 marks. Goodrich won the 200 IM in 2:33.36. He was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle (2:14.56) and 400 IM (5:21.61) and was third in the 400 freestyle (4:44.24).
