Well drilling ordinance up for discussion

| July 9, 2007 9:00 PM

Meeting slated for Tuesday night

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake City Council is holding a study session Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss a proposed water regulations ordinance due to extensive citizen concern.

The ordinance was tabled at the last council meeting.

The ordinance was in the second reading stage. According to the ordinance, drilling private wells within city limits would be prohibited.

Previously the ordinance included regulating well drilling in the Urban Growth Area surrounding the city. It was removed after several questions were asked related to enforcing the prohibition. Several citizens expressed relief for the exclusion to the ordinance but still have questions.

A regular council meeting is scheduled immediately after the study session. A vote may be taken on the ordinance.
