Fire damages Moses Lake duplex
MOSES LAKE — While the residents of a Moses Lake duplex sat inside their house Sunday evening, a fire was burning in their attic.
The Moses Lake Fire Department responded to a neighbor's call of a fire burning at a duplex on A Street, between Gem and Cascade.
"They were still inside watching TV," said Assistant Chief Pete Kunjara.
Two teenage residents were inside one unit when the fire started, Kunjara said. The other unit is unoccupied and used for storage, he said.
Nobody was injured in the fire. The fire was extinguished with minimal damage to the attic and no damage to the contents of the home, he said.
"The crews did a great job and they got a really nice stop on the fire. Everything's intact," Kunjara said.
He estimated the damage to the home is $5,000 to $8,000.
The source of the fire is undetermined, Kunjara said. The fire department suspects the fire began at the rear of the house with a burning cigarette and then spread to the attic, he said.
The resident said they smoke at the rear of the house.
