Walleyes sweep Pasco
PASCO — The Moses Lake Walleyes seemed a little mad coming off Tuesday's sweep at the hands of Richland.
Thursday, they took out their frustrations on their hosts from Pasco.
The Walleyes cruised to a 10-0 victory in six innings in game one, then held off a Pasco comeback in game two to win a wild and woolly 21-10 affair, sweeping the Junior American Legion doubleheader and improving their league mark to 9-7.
Drew Martin was the star in game one, shutting out Pasco on two hits and two walks while striking out three in a complete-game effort.
"He just did a great job again," Moses Lake head coach Ed McNamara said of Martin. "That's the third consecutive great game he's done."
The Walleyes' bats were just as strong, pounding out 12 hits. Jacob Lacelle and Alex Moncada each had two hits, with Blaine Myers and Kyle Hickman both adding doubles. Moses Lake took control of the contest with a seven-run second inning.
Game two looked as it would be just as easy as Moses Lake led 12-2 after four-and-a-half innings with Myers pitching a beauty.
"It looked like we were going to 10-run them and he ran into a little bit of trouble," McNamara explained.
Two walks and two errors helped Pasco score six runs in the fifth, cutting its deficit to 12-8. No matter — Moses Lake immediately responded with seven runs in the sixth to restore control.
Myers pitched four innings to get the win, with Chris Jackson getting the save by tossing the last three. Dylan Signorelli was 3 for 6 and drove in a run. Hickman and Jackson also had three hits apiece, while Josh Martinez and Tyler Sage had two each.
At home on Tuesday, the visitors from Richland walked away with victories of 11-5 and 9-1. Moses Lake struggled defensively in both losses, McNamara said, and pitchers Brock Lybbert and Troy Stephens were both hit hard in their starts.
"We just really need to work on keeping the ball down," the coach noted.
The Walleyes continue their road trip today, traveling to Hanford for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
