Marjorie J. Ebel

| July 5, 2007 9:00 PM

Marjorie J. Ebel, 87, a longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away on Sunday morning, July 1, 2007, in Moses Lake.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1919, in Ephrata, in the home of Bertha Bell. Her parents were Moses Lake homesteaders, William and Ida (Eccles) Goodwin. Marjorie grew up in the Hiawatha and Mae Valley areas of Moses Lake. She walked two miles to attend school in a one-room schoolhouse. Ed Hull, a longtime educator, was one of her teachers. She later remembers going to school in Moses Lake and the bus driver going across the frozen lake in the winter. She graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1937. Marjorie continued her education by attending Central Washington University in Ellensburg, prior to going to work for a doctor in Ephrata.

She was married to Edward J. Ebel on August 1, 1940. Ed and Marge lived in Coulee City, while Ed worked on Grand Coulee Dam. Their two children, Bill and Ann, were born during that time. Soon after the children were born, the Ebel family returned to Moses Lake, where Marjorie and Ed lived the rest of their lives. In June of 2005, she was preceded in death by her husband, longtime Moses Lake Realtor and Grant County Fair Manager, Edward J. Ebel. As a couple, they did whatever was necessary to help promote this small community, which included hosting many speakers that were invited to Moses Lake. Marjorie was known as a gracious hostess and a great cook.

Most important to Marjorie was her faith in Jesus Christ. She and Ed were lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake. They had both served behind the scenes as well as in active leadership roles. They were also a part of the group of Presbyterians who started the Presbyterian Tall Timber Ranch, located above Lake Wenatchee. Marjorie’s devotion to the Lord and knowing she has eternal life allowed her to have a peaceful passing to the next chapter of her life.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Ann Ebel of Moses Lake; her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Suzanne Ebel of Albuquerque, N.M.; her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Sally Goodwin, Moses Lake; she has five grandchildren, Lauri and Edward Ebel both of Albuquerque, N.M., Amy Paul and her husband Chris of St. Louis, Mo., David Ebel of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Thomas Ebel, (deceased). She has five great-grandchildren, four are the children of Edward and Denise Ebel, they are Mikayla, Jonathan, Jacob and Erika Ebel all of Albuquerque, N.M., and Zachary Ebel of Bellingham is her oldest great-grandchild and the son of Thomas and Barbara Ebel.

A service to Commemorate Marjorie’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Moses Lake First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Eric Frye and Dr. Paul Wagner officiating. In Lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial donations to the E. J. & Marjorie Ebel Scholarship Fund, c/o Big Bend Community College Foundation, 7662 Chanute Street, Moses Lake, WA 98837 or the Presbyterian Tall Timber Ranch, for additions c/o 27875 White River Road, Leavenworth, WA 98826
