Columbia Basin has Fourth of July hot spots

COLUMBIA BASIN — Three cities in the Columbia Basin are hosting events Wednesday in celebration of the Fourth of July. George is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a giant pie in addition to the Fourth of July. Moses Lake offers fireworks, music and food. Othello offers activities from sunup to sundown.

George

A giant cherry pie is a hallmark of George's Fourth of July celebration. Other activities include a parade, flag raising ceremony, national anthem, Cherry Bomb Run, children's activities, vendors and fireworks.

Where: George Community Park, West Montmorency.

When: Grand Parade is at 10 a.m., cherry pie is served from noon until approximately 3 p.m., fireworks start at dusk.

Moses Lake

The Parks and Recreation Department committed to the biggest fireworks show of the department's Fourth of July event history. A performance by Smash Hit Carnival and free food are part of the event.

Where: McCosh Park, Fourth Avenue.

When: Community picnic is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., summer concert is at 8 p.m., fireworks start at dusk.

Othello

The lineup of all-day events for Sun Faire include a breakfast, live music, Sun Run, several tournaments, a parade, flag-raising ceremony, children's activities, vendors, demo derby and fireworks.

Where: Lions Park, East Pine Street.

When: Rotary breakfast is at 8 a.m., Sun Run 1 mile walk is at 8 a.m., 5K and 10K runs are at 8:15 a.m., 3-on-3 basketball is at 8 a.m., parade is at 10 a.m., children's sidewalk art contest is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., live entertainment is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., demo derby is at 5 p.m., fireworks start at dusk. The Firecracker Open Shotgun Golf Tournament is at 9 a.m. at the Othello Golf Club.
