MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake's five seniors marked their final match on home mats with a 5-0 sweep of Davis' wrestlers.

"We wrestled better tonight than we did Tuesday, overall," said Moses Lake head coach Jamie Wise. "It was good to see our kids keep battling, even when they got behind."

Jordan Hill kicked off the senior sweep in the 135-pound bout against Tony Yocum. In the early going of the third period, Hill stuck Yocum to earn a pin for Moses Lake at 5:28. Hill jumped out to a 6-1 in the first period with two takedowns and a 2-point near fall and extended his lead in the second period with an escape, a takedown and 3- and 2-point near falls.

The next senior win was Ty Sainsbury wrestling at 171 pounds against Herminio Muniz. Both wrestlers were held scoreless in the first period. Sainsbury came out strong in the second earning an escape, a takedown and a 3-point near fall before Muniz could earn an escape to end the period. Muniz surged in the third period with a takedown and reversal but Sainsbury was able to hold him off recording a reversal for an 8-5 win.

John Fackrell wasted no time continuing the seniors' win streak in the 189-pound bout against Michael Finley. After a quick takedown, Fackrell pinned Finley in 37 seconds.

At 215 pounds, Brett Frederickson helped the senior class make it a 4-0 streak, defeating Alex Garcia. Frederickson earned two takedowns and two 2-point near falls and allowing an escape by Garcia in the first period. Frederickson continued to dominate, earning another takedown and a 3-point near fall in the second and finishing out his win with an escape and takedown in the third period for a 16-1 win.

Matt Palmer finished out the senior sweep against J.J. Padilla in the 125-pound bout. Palmer found himself down 4-3 after the first period but earned a reversal early in the second and finished out the matchup with a pin at 3:02.

John Silva was the first non-senior to win for Moses Lake, defeating Travis Grow 11-0 in the 145-pound bout.

At 152 pounds, Blaine Zucker earned a 6-2 win for Moses Lake against Zach Meyers. Zucker earned a takedown in the first period and finished out the win with a takedown and reversal in the second.

Josh Neilsen earned a pin for Moses Lake in the 160-pound matchup against Antonio Gonzales, pinning him with 40 seconds remaining in the first period.

Tad Harman earned another pin for Moses Lake in the 285-pound bout, defeating Ignacio Florez in just 13 seconds.

Gabe Guzman finished out Moses Lake's wins in the 119-pound bout. Guzman defeated Jose Martinez with a pin with five seconds remaining in the second period.

"Davis has a couple of really tough kids and they have improved a lot over last year," said Wise. "It's great for the league because as other teams improve, we have to improve."

At 130 pounds, Tom Pfeiffer lost 11-2 to Kido Espinoza. At 140, Cody Hoiness was defeated 6-2 by Nick Garcia. Andy Valdez was defeated 22-7 by Courtney Nalley at 103 pounds. Tyler Vela lost 7-6 to Zach Nalley in the 112-pound bout.

Senior Stephanie Adame also wrestled her last home bout at 119 pounds against Candra Graham. Adame took an early 3-2 lead in the first round with an escape and takedown. Graham pulled ahead in the second period but left room for Adame to come back in the third. With two seconds remaining in the bout, Graham pinned Adame.

Moses Lake was also looking ahead to Dream Duals over the weekend.

"There will be a lot of state placers there," said Wise. "Lake Stevens is loaded. They're really the team to catch."

The opportunity to scout teams heading into the post-season strong is also on the Chiefs' collective mind.

"We'll be able to see how teams have juggled their line-ups and maybe see some kids we haven't seen yet," said Wise.
