Driver arrested for drunk driving

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man drove his car through the ice on Moses Lake Thursday night near West Marina Drive.

The driver was allegedly spinning his car around on the ice and broke through, Chief Criminal Deputy John Turley reported.

Calvin Eugene Smith, 46, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for negligent driving. He was processed by the Washington State Patrol .

"(Smith) narrowly escaped a cold-water drowning when he was able to get out of his 1985 Toyota Camry and flee across the ice," Turley noted.

He was contacted at a residence on West Marina Drive after he reportedly called law enforcement about the incident.

The Camry was still lodged in the ice Friday morning.
