Residents to pay 10 percent more

QUINCY — For Quincy residents who haven't seen their garbage bill, rates increased Jan. 1.

The rates were increased by 10 percent, City Administrator Tim Snead said. A 60 gallon garbage cart went from $8.15 to $8.95 per month.

The increase was to cover a few costs.

Council agreed Tuesday to comply with a 4.85 percent increase in garbage rates from Consolidated Disposal Services Inc. (CDSI) at the Tuesday night council meeting.

Rates to use the Grant County landfill increased and the city was due to raise the garbage rates. Last year, there wasn't a rate increase, he said.

The increase also covers composting.

"The composting facility isn't making any money," Snead said.

Composting is a service offered in addition with the garbage fee.

The rate increase was expected and accounted for in the 2007 Quincy budget, he said. Rates were also expected to increase for residents.

The increase only applies to citizens living within the city limits.
